Dear VMAA Community,

I hope you have all enjoyed a restful and rejuvenating summer. For those of you who were unable to attend the Annual General Meeting earlier this year, it is my pleasure to introduce you to the 2023-2024 Board of Directors:

A shout-out also to the hardworking members of the exhibitions committee: Returning members Clarissa Long (who recently stepped down as Chair), Zula and Suzanne Nairne, and new members Celeste Lucero Maas (the new fearless leader), Mina Saneei and Enhui Stella Lee.

Lastly, a heartfelt thank you to VMAA founding member, former president and longtime exhibitions Jan Smith concludes over a decade supporting the organization this week.

If you missed the AGM, you will also have missed some exciting updates and reports back with regards to the City of Vancouver and BC Arts Council-funded metal arts hub feasibility project we have been working on over the past couple of years. I urge you to read the annual report to discover the insights from our community needs assessment phase, and to reach out if you would like to be involved or feed into the upcoming operational and financial models phase.

There are exciting things afoot this fall, and we look forward to sharing more updates on space, upcoming initiatives and partnerships with you soon.

Sincerely, Ingrid Valou VMAA President

Call for Annual VMAA Group Exhibition

Application Deadline | November 1, 2023

VMAA invites artists to submit work that explores what becomes present in spaces that evolve and transition.

We will be partnering with the Craft Council of British Columbia to present a group exhibition titled [Evolving Spaces: Transitional in Nature]. Evolving Spaces celebrates jewellery and metal arts in dialogue with the concept of the dynamism of spaces and phases in an artist's life.

Consider the following:

  • Spatial limitations that impact the ability to live/exhibit/work

  • Changes of heart

  • Cultural losses and gains

  • Metamorphoses

  • Transitions

  • Silver linings

  • Coming of age

Application deadline:

1 November 2023

Work received by:

10 January 2024

Exhibition dates:

25 January 2024 - 22 February 2024

Please note that while any artist may apply, those selected to exhibit will be required to be VMAA members in good standing at the time of the exhibition.

Thank you all for reading! We'll soon be in touch again with more updates. Until next time. Warm regards, Ingrid Valou
